Westrek is a specialist consulting company, operating from multiple offices in British Columbia, with a focus on geotechnical engineering, landslide analysis and stabilization, and risk management. We are a small team of professionals that use a multidisciplinary approach to create practical and innovative solutions. Who are we looking for?

If you’re an experienced geotechnical engineer with a strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, deep and shallow foundations, soil anchors and retaining wall design, shoring, pipelines, roadways, railways, and related construction services, you may be the person we are looking for.

Role Responsibilities

We want you to:

  • Coordinate geotechnical investigations, conduct analysis of the results, undertake designs, and compile reports.
  • Provide construction monitoring for slope stabilization, foundation, and earth retention projects.
  • Actively participate in identifying new opportunities for business development.
  • Manage your own projects, including proposals, budgets, and schedules.
  • Train and mentor junior staff in both the field and office settings.
  • Work with our project teams across our various business sectors, enhancing and growing our reputation.

Required Education, Experience & Competencies

What you will bring to our team:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science in civil or geological engineering, with a geotechnical focus.
  • At least 5 years of post-university work in geotechnical engineering.
  • Substantial experience in conducting investigation, using techniques such as soil logging, SPT, and CPT.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
  • A strong understanding of soil mechanics, landforms, geotechnical design, slope stability, groundwater, seepage, and drainage.
  • Experience with design and construction of deep and shallow foundations, such as spread footings, driven piles, drilled shafts, and micropiles.
  • Experience with earth retention, such as shoring, anchors, retaining walls, MSE and GRS walls.

Desired Competencies

To thrive in our team environment, we would like you to have a high level of proficiency in the following areas:

  • Using current geotechnical software, such as SLOPE/W or SLIDE, SETTLE3D, UNIPILE, LPILE AND GRLWEAP.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Prior experience in consulting engineering or construction.

Fieldwork

Fieldwork provides the opportunity to get outdoors, meet new people, travel to new places and be physically active at work. Fieldwork can be both mentally and physically demanding and our engineers typically spend up to 25% of their time in the field.

Location

Westrek has offices in Kamloops, Squamish, Victoria, Courtenay/Comox, Salmon Arm, Quesnel and Smithers.

This role is primarily for our Kamloops office, although we would consider you for our Squamish, Comox/Courtenay, Salmon Arm and Smithers locations.

We are open to considering hybrid and flexible arrangements, including working remotely for short periods of time.
